Landscaping Tips to Get Your Best Yard Possible

Do a Spring Cleanup
The first thing you want to do is a spring clean up of your lawn and remove any debris that is leftover from the fall and winter. After that you want to dethatch your lawn. This removes any dead thatch (grass) from your lawn and allows water and fertilizer to better penetrate. You can do this either with a detaching machine or by hand with a rake.
Fertilize
A great fertilizing program is hands down the absolute key to achieving a lush, green, and healthy lawn so you want to get your first application of fertilizer down. You can use a synthetic or an organic fertilizer, whichever you are more comfortable with. It depends where you live in the country since the weather and the grass varies greatly geographically, but here in Connecticut doing 6 applications throughout the growing season. This produces the best results. Fertilizing is the always the first thing my husband recommends his clients do to whip their lawn into shape. You also have the option of synthetic turf from Artificial Grass Pros for low maintenance yet natural looking grass.
Pruning
You may hire an arborist to cut back and prune any trees or plants that need to be shaped or trimmed up. The goal is for everything to look clean not overgrown. Do this on an as needed basis.
Touchup Your Beds
You want to freshen up your planting beds with fresh mulch or decorative stone. This just makes everything look brighter and neater and really helps the beds to pop. You also want to pull any weeds or use weed killers to get rid of them.
Power Wash
When you are powering washing your house don’t forget about your concrete and pavers. Make everything look clean and fresh, this just helps with the overall aesthetics.
Plant Flowers
When you know you are not going to get anymore frost, it is time to plant your flowers and add any plants you may need. For an excavating contractor Smith Mountain Lake contact Wingfield Excavating & Landscaping. Again, it varies geographically, but here in the northeast Petunias and New Guinea Impatiens are easy to keep alive and do well even in shaded areas. This just really brings your outdoor space to life by adding color. If you are looking to add some privacy, plant some Green Giant Arborvitaes. They are pretty much deer resistant too which is a plus.
Aerate and Overseed
This is also such an important step in having healthy lawn. Aeration opens up the lawn and allows air, water, and nutrients to penetrate down deep into the shallow roots and the deep roots. This also helps loosen compacted soil which ensures your lawn is ready to absorb that seeds you put down when you over-seed with grass seed. Again, grass defers geographically, but for the most part (and here in Connecticut) the best time to aerate and over-seed is in the late summer and early fall. This helps your grass grow thicker and faster. It is also important to do this as need and plant grass in bare spots you may have. Homeowners who prefer low-maintenance landscapes may consider getting an artificial turf grass installation.
Reseal Your Driveway
This often gets overlooked but it really makes such a huge difference in the overall appearance of your front yard. We always seem to get extra compliments when we have a freshly sealed driveway. If you’re looking for similar results, a professional driveway paving Roanoke service can make your home look just as polished. Another great way to elevate curb appeal is through concrete driveway resurfacing, which can refresh the look of your drive in just a short time.
Maintain It
Sounds simple but it is so important to maintain your yard. Mow the lawn every single week with sharp mower blades. Make sure you don’t use too short of mower grass blades either, you don’t want it to burn in the hot summer weather. Be sure to clean up any grass clippings too.
Another extremely important tip is to water your lawn. Irrigation systems work wonderfully especially if you have a have a lot of square feet and a lot of ground to cover on your lot. If you do not have one a hose and sprinkler works too. This is a very important step that a lot of people overlook. Just be careful to not over water either.
Those are all of our best lawn care tips to get you your best and my beautiful yard possible. Different parts of the country have different grasses, some are warm season grasses and some are cool season grasses. It is always best to consult a professional in your specific area. Also if you are having major issues get testing done on your soil.
